In his post, which now has more than 286,000 likes and 175,000 shares, he holds a lengthy receipt from a Winn Dixie grocery store in Florida. The story behind this grand purchase is one that Carpenter felt his Facebook friends needed to hear.

His short message described how it all started with his ex calling him, requesting that he bring some infant Tylenol for their sick daughter. Carpenter arrived with the medication, but when he went into the kitchen, he was left speechless by what was not inside the refrigerator.

He explained how “…her fridge is completely empty other then some water..but she has a full pantry of my daughters food formula snacks and water.” He then mentioned how much of a hard worker and good parent his ex is to their child.

Despite her being without groceries “she works a full time job and then has my daughter..she pays rent and all her bills plus she is paying off a car.” Considering all the sacrifices the mother makes by herself, Carpenter did what any loving father should do for his child.

He went to the grocery store to buy them a long list of food. “So today I went shopping to make sure she had food for the next few weeks,” he wrote.

Carpenter made a good point about their relationship. Although they’re not together, they still share a child together, and he wants to make sure both ladies are well-taken care of no matter what.

He wrote on Facebook, “Just because we aren’t together doesn’t mean I can’t provide for her if she needs it…if my child’s mother is good then I know she is taking care of our daughter the best she can and that [makes] me happy.”

A lot of people have been touched by Carpenter’s sentiment, especially single mothers. “I am a single mom and never had any help at all,” one woman wrote in response to the post. “I respect you and appreciate that there are good men and fathers out there. All kids deserve a peaceful family.

Surprisingly, Carpenter hasn’t always been on his best behavior, in what looks to have been a troubled past and a run-in with the law. Fortunately, he has redeemed himself by showing the world that he is a caring father.

The young dad has learned to put his pride aside and think as an adult. Like he wrote in his post, “…it’s time to grow up and take responsibility in all aspects in life,” even if that means setting aside resentful feelings towards the person who helped you bring a human into the world.

In a separate statement, Carpenter wrote, “Everyday when we wake up we have a choice…!!! Make sure yours is positive..!!”

Carpenter made the choice to react positively toward his ex’s unfortunate situation. He could’ve responded in a way that was vindictive, childish, or spiteful, yet, he let compassion dictate his emotions. Hopefully his viral post will not only encourage more co-parents to work together to take care of their child, but to also take care of one another.
