The classic Salisbury steak is covered with a mushroom and onion sauce and is ready in just 30 minutes.
One of those home-cooked favorites that never goes out of style. It’s quick to make, cheap, and popular with kids and adults alike! This home version is VERY better than the one you’ll find in the frozen section of your grocery store.
The first step in making a Salisbury steak is to make your meat burgers. I like to use a 90% lean ground beef, because it has a lot of flavor but is not too fatty. The meat is mixed with bread crumbs and seasonings, and then formed into oval-shaped “steaks”.
The burgers are cooked until golden brown, and then a simple sauce is made with onions, mushrooms, meat broth and a little bit of cornstarch that is used as a thickener. Normally I use white mushrooms, but other varieties of mushrooms such as cremini mushrooms would also be a great choice. I make it easy for myself by buying the mushrooms pre-cut to save preparation time.
